Delivering chair-based yoga as part of Activities Week in the Torbay area

One of our founding members, Step One, was recently invited by Jess Slade, Participation Development Lead for Live Longer Better — Torbay, to attend Activities Week on Friday 22 March 2024. Two members of the Step One team — Recovery Practitioner Dee Allbrook and BeWell@StepOne Trainer Dom Bryant — produced a day’s worth of activities.

Shekinah Grow (part of Shekinah) was the destination for chair-based yoga and a 2-hour wellbeing talk on how DNA should not define you, letting exercise enlighten you, fatigue, sleep, and goal setting. The yoga session focused on grounding elements, breathing techniques and gentle mobilisations. It was hosted by Dee, who previously worked for Healthy Lifestyles, delivering the presentation on activity and motivation she’d used on ample occasions whilst they were in existence.

Finally, elements of the HOPE (Help Overcoming Problems Effectively) programme were utilised, along with appropriate signposting to MyHealth Devon. Feedback from the day was really positive and attendees were also drawn to the Step One BeWell platform, with related activities such as a wellbeing yoga group amongst one of many courses.
