HOPE course provokes optimism and solutions-focused outlooks

Step One’s  X Centre, in Commercial Road, Exeter, was the venue for a recent HOPE course working in unison with PCN’s in central Exeter.  Dee Allbrook, Recovery Practitioner & BeWell@StepOne platform course provider was joined by Laura Callaway from Barnfield Surgery; Sarah Michie, a HOPE Coordinator; Lewis Tanner, the Devon Mental Health Alliance’s Locality Manager, and HOPE course attendees.

Topics discussed covered many day-to-day issues which evoke pain or distress in our bodies, heighten anxiety and cause depression. Tools and techniques to address those issues were disseminated and progress was fruitful.

Every week methods are built into the attendees’ journeys to provoke optimism, to encourage a solutions-focused outlook, and to make attendees aware that they aren’t alone with the pressing and burgeoning issues they are facing and to, pardon the pun, find ‘HOPE’.

This NHS Accredited HOPE course is free and will be starting again soon on Monday afternoons, at the X Centre, in Exeter. The course covers numerous topics including fatigue, sleep, activity motivation, gratitude setting  and intention making.

Following a recent  HOPE course at Buckland Community Centre the following endorsements were shared -

Hi Dee and Jess thanks for everything you both held a safe lovely space and top quality professionalism I’ve learned so much from the Hope course.
— Raymond
At first when my GP suggested the course I was unsure. During the lead up to starting I was very nervous. But once I arrived everyone was friendly and it was nice to be with people that understood what I was feeling and going through. I really enjoyed the chair yoga and mindfulness and I shall go away with strategies eg. Gratitude diary and goal setting amongst others to help me when needed. Both Davinia and Jess were brilliant . I would most certainly endorse this course.
